Performance is very emotional, in this way.
To do this, a leader must also be a black belt in emotional self-management. To be able to come to the table level-headed in all instances and despite emotional setbacks from you or those you lead.
Leaders who are more concerned with being likable tend to cause more chaos.
Effectiveness is not a function of likability, but of emotional management.
It's an interesting balance.
