What Matters: Life, Death & Afterlife
What you create is what matters.
The only thing that will ever matter about you is the legacy you leave behind.
Yes there's the afterlife in some religions, but the truth is, we're all just terrified of death. We're terrified of being nothing, even more. So we create narratives that are physically impossible.
At it's core, death scares us because it means we no longer exist. What we're truly scared of, is to be forgotten. This, we can overcome.
"The first step toward change is awareness. The second step toward change is acceptance." - my masseuse told me that.
The first step to almost anything is awareness, really.
So with this, we must accept and be aware that afterlife isn't something we should be waiting around for, as that's really just us waiting around to have a heart attack. There are so many better things you can do.
Afterlife is something you can create. Life after you will be the people, things, structures, companies, ventures and memories you Created.
You are creating your afterlife with every action you take, each and every day (including today).
Are you truly proud of the work you've done? The impact you've had?
That's what matters.
With this in mind, it is a great time to reflect on your year ahead. Life is too short to just let it happen to you, or to wait for the right person to come and give something to you, or to wait for something to change, or to think about the past. That may be your life now, but it is not creating for you an afterlife. Create.
Make your life, work, matter now. Not just for yourself, for others. No pressure.
